Core Motivations: Stress, Anger & Triggers

The core motivation personality tool is based on the Enneagram, a mixture of an ancient personality system and modern psychology. This particular model was developed by Coach Training EDU and is utilized by coaches in training as a coaching exploration tool.

The Perfectionist
Mistakes, errors. Pressure of having so many things to get right. Not being able to stop thinking if what I am doing is good enough. Others are blaming me.
Frustration and tense.

Sudden tantrum of resentment.

Seriousness & sometimes crying.
The Helper
Others not recognizing me. Having too much to do for others and not having time for myself. Caring so much about relationships.
Blaming and emotional.

Sometimes crying.

Can be demanding.
The Doer
Others thinking poorly of me. Inefficiency, things getting in the way of accomplishing a goal. Pressure from having to accomplish a goal.
Frustration and aggressive accusations.

Can be impatient.
The Artist
When others do not acknowledge how I’m feeling, or even worse, when they tell me not to feel that way. Feeling inadequate and abandoned.
Dramatic and teary. Emotional.

Blaming others for not being understanding or cruel.
The Thinker
Demands on my time and energy. People invading my space and being proved factually wrong.
Stubborn and argumentative. I tend to retreat into my mind.

I can be cold and smoldering, and eventually aggressive to protect myself.
The Friend
Danger or threats. Not trusting other people. People breaking their promises or being unreliable. Problems.
Sarcastic. Using wit to get point across.

Going from being direct to passive-aggressive depending on the perceived threat.
The Optimist
Thinking that something better is out there for me. Feeling trapped in something boring or painful. Too many options, not enough time or limits on getting desired wants.
Brief, strong and to the point. Getting frustrated. Trying to avoid negative feelings yet still getting what they want.
The Defender
People who take advantage of me or others. Weakness in myself and others. Stupidity. Unfairness. When things are moving slowly or nothing important is really happening.
Demanding. Prefer direct confrontation. If they think it’s fair, will take opportunities for revenge.
The Peacemaker
To be comfortable
My basic fear is being in conflict. I avoid tension and being uncomfortable.
