Use the Values in Practice tool in a variety of settings to create greater self-awareness, alignment and positive impact.
Values are the framework you use to organize what matters, where you place your focus and what motivates you to act — the beliefs that guide your behaviors and shape how you show up. They are developed from your life experiences — upbringing, family, culture and community — and they reach every area of life: profession, relationships, hobbies and mindset. Focus on what your values truly are, not the ones you think you should choose.
Before you start
Personal Reflection
Gain clarity on your core values and how they show up in your daily life.
Leadership Development
Align your leadership behaviors with your values and identify areas for growth.
Coaching & Mentoring
Use it in 1:1 coaching or mentoring conversations to spark deeper reflection and accountability.
Team Conversations
Bring it into team discussions to co-create a values-driven culture and set shared expectations.
Goal Setting & Planning
Use it when setting personal or team goals to ensure your actions are aligned with what matters most.
“We value what we do and we do what we value.” — Howard Partridge
Any time you want to turn your values into visible action — in your life, your leadership or your team.
Tap any value to drop it into your next empty box. There is no right answer here — pick the words that sound like you.
LeadIN™ Module 4 · Guiding Leadership Principles
The values you live, not just the ones you name, reflect who you are and shape how you lead.
Individual · early in the session
What are 5 personal values that guide how you choose to live or lead? Write down the first 5 that come to mind — no need to overthink to get this perfect or right at this stage.
10 minutes · on your own
There is no right or wrong, only awareness. Observe yourself versus judge yourself — only then can you see yourself accurately.
Look at the 5 values you listed. For each one, write how it shows up in your personal life and in your leadership behaviors. Then mark it actual or aspirational.
New values you’d like to grow into.
Create a safe, non-judgmental space
Following a value can carry a cost, or another legitimate need may be competing with it.
Some values are foundational to who you are and how you lead, and they deserve to be honored. Reflect on the impact on your non-negotiable values when under pressure. Example: a healthcare executive who values patient safety refuses to cut safety protocols despite budget pressure.
Pick up to 3.
